Popular Music Vocals - LVL 2

Course Description

This course will focus on the additional developmental elements involved in healthy effective vocal production and performance. This year will begin with genre specific - POP music characteristics, elements of music theory major and minor & pentatonic scales.

On the course students will cover:

  • Characteristics of POP music

  • Use of pentatonic scales in POP music

  • Stage etiquette (intermediate – advanced)

  • Technical work - major and minor (harmonic)

  • Personal voice and interpretation

  • Music appreciation

  • Riffs

  • Vocal exercises (intermediate-advanced))

  • Breathe control

  • Performance, movement & personality

  • Music theory (major and minor scales-harmony and melodic, rhythm and term abbreviation)

  • Sight singing and aural awareness

  • Elements of Drama

Activities

  • All students are given the opportunity to gain practical experience at a number of events (Pizza Recitals, Girlfriends Expo, NIFCA)

  • Students can also audition for our grand end of term production (Walkin’ In My Own Shoes)

  • Free workshops

Gain an international certificate with the London College of Music through Vocal Exams!

Course length: 1 year

Criteria: Before entering level 2 students should have a strong sense of vocal awareness, vocal concepts and terms, understanding of breathing and knowledge of grade 1 music theory (assessment by mock exam) or completion of LCM grade 1 popular music vocals exam.
